Active Adult Communities
Also known as 55+ communities, Active Adult Retirement Communities are no different than any other planned community except there is an age requirement. Many communities have a provision that allows 20% of the homeowners to be 40+ (no one younger than 19 may live permanently in the home). In an active adult community, residents go about their lives very similar to how they went about their lives before moving – just a little better! Don’t let the name fool you, being retired isn’t a requirement.
Many residents continue to work part or full time, while at the same time choosing to enjoy the rich lifestyle offered in retirement communities. These communities are comparable in price to traditional neighborhoods. There is a reasonable HOA fee that includes common area maintenance as well as a variety of resort-like amenities such as, golf, tennis, pickleball, fitness center, clubhouse with bar and restaurant, walking paths, billiards, enrichment classes and hundreds of other activities.
Typically, only about half of the retirement community members are year-round residents, with the remaining half being snowbirds who winter in sunny Arizona. All residents agree, one of the biggest benefits is they can enjoy activities with others who have similar interests. If you are looking for a home in a community that feels like you are on vacation every day, consider a home in one of Arizona’s many retirement communities.
