Be a Volunteer in Sun Lakes AZ! Living in an active adult community such as Sun Lakes is very rewarding. After all, with just under 10,000 homes there are no shortages of volunteer opportunities. People from all over the United States, Canada and the world are homeowners in Sun Lakes at least part of the year. Especially, when the mild winter climates are a magnet to those escaping cold, harsh and snowy winters. Thus, many of these homeowners are retired or semi-retired. For instance, IronOaks is the homeowner association for two of the gated communities in Sun Lakes. Obviously, known as Ironwood and Oakwood. There is a board of seven people. Accordingly, they have been elected by the community to govern the HOA. Overall, there are 15 committees. Each dedicated to a specific area. Therefore, providing recommendations to the Board of Directors. Likewise, the general manager and staff are serving the community under the direction of the IronOaks board of directors.
As can be imagined, community volunteers are the lifeblood of any organization. As a matter of fact, the IronOaks HOA is always seeking qualified volunteers to serve on one of these committees. Your interest and expertise is always appreciated.

In the first place, there is ALC (Architecture and Landscape Committee). This committee focuses on the appearance of residential areas. Also, they develop guidelines for changes to the exterior of homes. Such as, new construction, alterations and landscaping. Typically, member backgrounds include construction, architecture and landscaping.
Next, is the Image Committee. This committee’s focus is on the appearance of the property. Such as, entrance and signage. As well as the image we are presenting to the community. Moreover, this includes residents and the public. Member skills include marketing, writing and corporate branding. As well as, public relations, real estate and even landscaping. Likewise, people with interior and architectural design would enjoy this committee.

People with experience in engineering, construction and environmental science may enjoy being on the Energy Conservation Committee. This groups focus is on ways to reduce energy and natural resource consumption. Comparatively, at the residential and community level. Therefore, this group tries to identify where potential savings might be found. Including, electrical, water, HVAC and recycling.

The Finance Committee assures that the budget meets operating needs. And, is providing a financial plan for the maintenance and replacement of HOA assests. As you can well imagine, member skills include accounting, finance and business management.
In addition, many people enjoy being on the Properties Committee. Uniquely, this committees focus is concerning with facilities maintenance and common area landscaping. As well as, capital improvement proposals for Association facilities. Many of these members have background skills in engineering, project manager and contracting. Not to mention, skills as a mechanic, general business and computers.
By the way, who would not love being on the Fitness Committee? This group helps the Fitness Director by developing plans for operations and activities. As well as equipment choices. Also, the members help evaluate usage trends and will make recommendations to the Board accordingly. Correspondingly, many of the members have an avid interest in fitness.
Food and Beverage Committee Advises on Promotion and Marketing.
Having an interest in food service, management or public relations, the Food and Beverage Committee might be for you. In like manner, this committee is committed to the operations of the restaurants, catering and special events program. Of course, they are providing advice to the GM and the Board. Additionally, they are providing feedback with respect to menus, promotions and marketing.
Love the game of golf? Then, the Golf Committee might be for you! Again, this committee focuses on golf operations, programs and facilities. Together with, overseeing the Adopt a Hole program.
The Racket Committee focuses on tennis and pickleball operations. Therefore, suggesting policies and procedures that relate to use of courts, space and equipment. Likewise, working closely with the Director of Racket sports. Thus, insuring a wide array of programs for all levels of play. Similarly, members have an interest in promoting and participating in the these sports.

In the first place, the Communication Committee assures timely and accurate information from the HOA. Incidentally, several subcommittees are supporting different programs. Correspondingly, the Feedback Committee assists with surveys and comment cards reflecting homeowner input. Comparatively, the Web Site Committee is promoting the use of the IronOaks website. As well as, Stay in the Loop and eNewsletters. Many of these members have skills in writing, editing, publishing, and computer web knowledge. Also, many have skills in education, hospitality, survey design and analysis. As well as, systems information and archives.
Members of the Unit Captains Committee are providing a personal source of information on all matters of the community. Interestingly, IronOaks 4,019 homes are divided into 35 units with a Unit Captain for each unit. Thereby, ensuring two-way communication between their neighbor, homeowners and the HOA. As a matter of fact, members of this committee have an interest of being informed and enjoy communicating with neighbors on HOA issues.

Equally important is the Risk Management Committee. It’s primary purpose is evaluating risks of loss to IronOaks assets. Therefore, advising the GM and the Board regarding insurance coverage and claims handling procedures. Additionally, this group performs periodic review of facilities to identify potential risks of loss. For instance, they may make suggestions to the most reasonable way to protect assets by eliminating, modifying, insuring or assuming such risks. Generally, these assets include cash, buildings, equipment, gates and the greenbelt areas. In this case, members of this committee are usually familiar with insurance operations and risk management.
Having legal experience or HOA knowledge as well as being an analytical thinker would make you a great member of the Rules and Regulations Committee. Here, with the collecting of data this team will analyze and provide information regarding rules, or rules violations. As well as enforcing rules. Also, by maintaining and updating the Rules and Regulations of the Association, making sure that we are practicing best compliance in our community.

Developing a long term vision for the community is what the Master Planning Committee is doing. Activities, such as, advising the Board of Directors on achieving the vision and preparing a Master Plan based on community input is one of their important objectives. Likewise, monitoring the progress of the plan and updating and modifying as needed. Member skills include, a business background or experience with strategic planning. By the same token, having knowledge of business processes and controls is a plus.
Being on the Election Committee just might be the ticket for you! Especially, if you are detail oriented and have the ability to multi task. Above all, this committee will oversee the mailing and counting of ballots. Together with, announcing the results of the election.

Serving on the advisory committee to the HOA and the GM on a wide range of personnel related issues is the Human Resources Committee. Thereby, advising in matters including but not limited to position descriptions and compensation and benefits. Also, advising on in-service training and keeping up to date on Federal and State laws. Members include active employees or retirees of Human Resources.
