Together with offering the comfort of home and the dignity of independence, volunteers support the elderly with their desire to live fulfilling lives at home. Equally important, you will find this opportunity very rewarding. By the way, Neighbors Who Care recruits volunteers from the neighborhood they are serving. Then training them and matching them with the client.
A Variety of Services are Available
There are a variety of services you can provide. For instance, business services, such as writing checks and letters. Also, addressing envelopes, helping with check book balancing, voter registration and tax preparation. Above all, this service is helpful for the visually impaired. Volunteers can also help by providing counsel and assistance in dealing with contractors for home repairs or helping to resolve service complaints.
Volunteers may provide transportation to and from medical appointments. However, clients are allowed only 2 transportation services of this type per week. But, the Neighbors Who Care van is providing transportation to select locations weekly. With this in mind, a client can request a ride to the bank or for groceries or other errands. In some cases the volunteer may do the shopping for them.
Volunteer With Neighbors Who Care and Deliver a Much Anticipated Dinner
Dinner delivery is available Monday through Friday. Therefore, the people on this program will receive a morning call with the menu options. Meals are paid for by the client and range in price from $4 – $7. Given that, local vendors prepare the meals and volunteers deliver them between 4 and 5 PM.
Some volunteers are providing assistance with minor repairs. Such as changing light bulbs, replacing batteries or a changing furnace filters.
Become a Friend to Someone in Need
Neighbors Who Care offers friendly social visits as well as brief daily welfare visits. In this case, volunteers provide a short check in visit when the caregiver or family are away, giving reassurance to the client as well as the caregiver. Likewise, volunteers do reassurance calling. This is a regular telephone call to check in with the clients, and wish them well for the day! In like manner respite care is available as well. A volunteer will come stay for a few hours when the regular care giver needs to be out.
