Selling Your Home? Tips to Be Camera Ready on Picture Day!
Be camera ready on picture day. When selling your home the interior of your house needs to shine! Pictures can make or break a home sale. The first place a potential buyer is going to see your home is online. Accordingly, if the buyer does not like what he sees online he is not going to want to see your property in person. Therefore, you must make sure your home is staged and camera ready.
Set The Stage
The lighting is the jewelry of your home and is key to any great production. To begin with, go through your house and check every light fixture. Try to make sure you are using the same type of bulb throughout. On picture day turn every single light on! Especially in the rooms that tend to be a little dark. Also, make sure all your blinds and drapes are wide open. Think of your home as a stage – better lighting, better show. Which means a better chance of attracting a buyer.
As a rule, rooms that are packed with furniture appear much smaller and even more so in pictures. Now is a good time to get rid of that old desk you had in college. Weed out as much furniture as you can. Anything that is removed for picture day, consequently, needs to stay away for showing as well.
In the bedroom, the bed is usually the focal point. Spend some time making it look luxurious. Make sure every bed is made to perfection. Add a few decorative pillows and maybe even a sumptuous throw to make this space look inviting. In brief, you want potential buyers to view your home as a relaxing space.
Clear Off The Kitchen Counters!
Next, your kitchen. Make sure your counter tops are clear. Kitchens look the best with clear clean counters. By the way, this creates the illusion of space and cleanliness. In this case, this means removing small appliances, knife blocks and cutting boards. Thus, follow the rule of three. No more than three items should be visible on your counters. Don’t forget the refrigerator! Take all photos, art and magnets off the fridge. The exterior should be clean of fingerprints as well, giving a classy clean impression of your kitchen.
Getting the bathroom photo ready should include spotless showers and bathtubs. Together with putting away soaps and shampoos. The same rules for the kitchen counter apply here as well. Stash lotions, toothbrushes and makeup. As a rule, this pertains to all flat surfaces of your home.
