Pool Maintenance Tips You Need to Know Right Now! Start Your Summer Off Right!
We have put together some pool maintenance tips you need to know. Having a pool can be a glamorous luxury. Beyond, hosting weekend pool parties and lounging poolside on a long afternoon, there is your pools maintenance to consider. Thus, without proper maintenance your pool could be less than luxurious.
To get your summer off to a good start, think about your pools filter. In brief, your pools filter is responsible for removing impurities from your water such as dirt and leaves. Most of the time your filter can be cleaned by turning it off, removing the cap on your pool deck and and lifting out your filter basket. It’s best to clean out your filter basket of debris at least once a week.
Test Your Water
In the desert, the extreme summer temps can wreak havoc on your pools chemistry. Generally, improperly balanced water looks a bit murky. Testing your water is easy. You can purchase testing kits at your local pool store and just follow the directions. By the way, most pool stores will analyze your water sample for you without a charge. There are 6 chemical levels that need to be considered;
- Cyanuric Acid – Protects chlorine from sunlight and determines the required Free Chlorine level. An ideal reading for outdoor pools is 30- 50.
- Free Chlorine – A sanitizer which keeps your pool water safe and free of germs.
- Acidity/Alkalinity – Also known as the PH level, acidity needs to be kept between 7.5 and 7.8 to prevent irritation and protect the pool equipment from eroding.
- Total Alkalinity – Helps keep the PH in balance. Levels should be within range of 60-120.
- Calcium Hardness – Appropriate levels help prevent plaster damage. Aim for 220-350.
Use a tennis ball to absorb oils left behind in the water from suntan lotion. In short, simply throw a tennis ball into the water. The fibers will absorb the oils.
Keep an Eye on Your Water Level
Pool maintenance tips you need to know right now. Keep an eye on your pools water level. If it’s too high the skimmer door will not work properly. Consequently, that door keeps the debris in your skimmer basket. Likewise, if the water level is too low it can run your pump dry and burn it up. Therefore, for best performance, the ideal water level is at the center level of your pools skimmer or pool tile.
Make Skimming a Way of Life
For a sparkling pool consider skimming on a daily basis. Skimming leaves and and debris off the surface of the pool seems like a no brainer. Subsequently, living in the desert there will be the inevitable ha boob. Together with skimming, cleaning filters and emptying skimmer baskets you will want to scrub or brush the sand in the pool to loosen it up and make it easier to be vacuumed out. Afterword, you may want to consider running your pool pump for an extended period of time. As a result, this will make sure any remaining bits of dust and sand are properly filtered out.
Hire a Professional
Lastly, whether you think you need it or not, sometimes you need to trust a professional. Especially, when it comes to your pumps, filters and heating system. At least once a year have someone come check your devices. In the event that all seems to be running well with your pool, the yearly service appointment may seem like a waste of money and it can be tempting to cancel. But remember, detecting and fixing a small problem now can save you from fixing a larger problem later.
