Deed of Trust

A legal document in which the borrower transfers the title to a third party (trustee) to hold as security for the lender. When the loan is paid in full, the trustee transfers title back to the borrower. If the borrower defaults on the loan the trustee will sell the property and pay the lender the mortgage debt.

Recipe of the Month

Cranberry Brie Tartlets

Ingredients:

• 1/4 c fresh squeezed orange juice
• 1/4 c water
• 1/3 c sugar
• 1/2 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped (optional, feel free to leave out if you're not a fan of rosemary)
• 6 oz fresh cranberries (almost 2 cups)
• 24 (give or take) phyllo pastry shells
• 8 oz brie cheese

Directions:

1. Bring orange juice, water, sugar, and rosemary to a boil in a medium saucepan, stirring occasionally.
2. Add cranberries and return to a boil. Reduce heat and boil gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove from heat, side aside to cool.
4. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
5. Remove pastry shells from package, set on a baking sheet.
6. Cut the brie into small pieces and place inside the shells.
7. Top brie with about a teaspoon of the cranberry sauce.
8. Bake 4-6 minutes or until cheese is just starting to melt.
9. Serve immediately.

How Much Do You Know About the United States Marine Corps?

We’d like to wish a very Happy Birthday to The United States Marine Corps! Yes, it’s a bit belated – November 10^th was the actual date of founding … But do you know the year?

Last month, the USMC turned 250! In 1775, the Continental Marines were established in what city by the Second Continental Congress?

New York? Boston? Philadelphia? If you guessed the City of Brotherly Love, you are correct! The first recruiting occurred at Tun Tavern.

Which of the following is not a nickname for members of the US Marines – “leathernecks”, “Devil Dogs”, or “jarheads”? Ok, that one was a trick question because they’re all known monikers! "Leatherneck" came about due to the uniform neck piece made of leather that protected their necks from swords and bayonets during their first decade in existence, while “Devil Dogs” was bestowed during World War I when the Germans witnessed the resolve of members of the USMC during the Battle of Belleau Wood. The exact origin of “jarheads” is a bit harder to pin down. It could be from their high-and-tight haircuts; or the high, stiff collars of their dress blues; or their stubborn nature; or the way they are trained almost as if the top of their head was unscrewed and everything Marine Corps was poured in and the lid put back on. More than likely, it’s a combination of those.

No doubt you’ve heard “Semper Fi!” or “Semper Fidelis!”, but do you know what that phrase means? Latin for "Always Faithful", the phrase definitely describes the dedication US Marines have to the country, corps, and each other.

Beloved mascot of the USMC, the English bulldog pictured here (named Chesty XV) retired after 3 years of service. He was replaced by Chesty XVI, but all of the English bulldogs to hold this esteemed position are named after whom? The most decorated US Marine in history, Lieutenant General Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, is remembered every day through the cute four-legged mascot.

Unfortunately, Chesty VI had a wild streak and was demoted in 1979 for offenses against a gunnery sergeant (disobeying a direct order to leave a punching bag alone) and said punching bag (ripping, tearing, and chewing the $176 item). In 1981, he sunk his teeth into two feet, one each on two corporals, which made his pile of charge sheets – the equivalent of rap sheets – and his length of duty grow. Apparently, the private first class being busted down to private two years prior didn’t straighten him out, and we’re guessing the 14 days of extra duty didn’t either.
