A Normal Thanksgiving?
Well, it’s looking like it very well may be! Last year, Thanksgiving was a shell of itself. Families met in much smaller groups, travel was at a minimum, no Thanksgiving Day parade, and no fans in the stands at the Lions game (not that it had any effect on my team’s performance)!
As long as 2020 seemed to drag on, 2021 has gone by like a lightning bolt! The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccines has slowed the pandemic and certainly helped safely open the world back up. This truly is something to be grateful for, as we look forward to once again gathering with friends and family for this most American of traditions.
We, at The Kolb Team, have plenty to be thankful for as well. As most of you know, we enjoy giving back, especially to the community in which we live and work.
- We hosted 2 Shred-A-Thons again this year at the Field of Dreams complex in Oakwood. With over 100 cars coming through the lines at each, we were also able to collect hundreds of pounds of food donations for Jacob’s Mission in Mesa, a nonprofit center serving foster children and their foster families.
- We are again hosting our annual Pie Day, giving away 150+ pies to our resident clients.
- We co-hosted an IRS Fraud Awareness seminar for Sun Lakes residents.
- For every listing sold, The Kolb Team donates $100 to Rotary International’s Polio Plus campaign, an effort to eradicate polio, and by the end of 2021, we will have donated over $5,000 to this incredibly worthy cause. Those Rotary donations are matched at 2-to-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which makes our donation worth an additional $10,000! Thanks again to all of our clients, who put their trust in us to sell their homes and help each year to make a donation possible, moving the world closer to being polio-free.
We hope you are finally getting back to some sort of normalcy in your lives, and will take this opportunity during the holidays to reconnect with family and friends to embrace life again in ways we were not able to do for the past 18 months.
Title
In property law, a title is a bundle of rights attached to a piece of property in which a party may own either a legal interest or equitable interest. The rights in the bundle may be separated and held by different parties. It may also refer to a formal document (such as a deed) that serves as evidence of ownership. The document provides evidence of a person’s right, or the extent of his or her interest, in the specific property.

Shred-A-Thon
Thank you, Sun Lakes, for making our Shred-A-Thon a huge success! We had over 130 cars come through with documents that needed shredding, and it was great to see so many of our friends and neighbors! A big thank you to the Arizona Rangers for doing the heavy lifting and managing traffic control.

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to get a lot of my shredding done. As a partially handicapped person, this is just a real wonderful thing you are doing. Thank you so very much! This is the third time I’ve taken advantage of this great service.”

Conversation Circling COVID-19? Not This Year!
We don’t know about you, but we are really looking forward to this year’s holiday season! COVID-19 vaccinations have been available for almost 11 months now, and we hope that means many more get-togethers and celebrations than last year. In addition to the sanitizing products permanently appended to our weekly shopping lists, and the hand hygiene protocols that have become second nature to us, we thought it might be good to arm you with something many of us may feel out of practice with – non-pandemic small talk.
Whether you need an ice breaker, there’s a lull in the chatter, or you want to talk about something other than what has been a hot topic since February 2020, we’ve got you covered with some trivia tidbits that are sure to help bring everyone out of those all too familiar COVID-centric conversations.
Discussing possible gift options for the grandkids? The very first Barbie doll was seen on March 9, 1959, at New York City’s American Toy Fair, and came to be the first adult-looking toy doll that was mass-produced in the United States. Her full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, and her “parents”, named George and Margaret Roberts, hailed from Wisconsin.
Did your server just bring waters for the table? One single glass of water has more atoms in it than there are glasses of water in all of Earth’s oceans combined.
Missing the snow while you’re enjoying our mild Arizona winter months? Avoiding yellow snow is something we all know to do… and why to do it, but what if you see pink snow? You’d have to be in certain mountain ranges, and your closest option is California’s Sierra Nevada. Not only could you see the pink “white stuff”, but it smells and tastes like watermelon too. Pretty handy for when watermelons are not in season!
Having corn at your holiday feast? Each ear of corn has an even number of rows of kernels and actual kernels – the average is 16 and 800, respectively.
Serving cranberry sauce or jelly? The growers of these berries can test ripeness by dropping them on something made from wood (a cutting board, perhaps). If they bounce, they’re ready to be made into the canned condiment that people either really like or really dislike – there seems to be no middle ground.
Enjoying an evening outside by the firepit? Is there a below the equator version of Aurora Borealis? Why yes, there is! It’s called Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights, and the best time to catch the breathtaking view is in the winter, just like it’s northern hemisphere counterpart.
Getting ready to pose for pics? Say “PRUNES!” In the Victorian era, subjects in front of the camera didn’t say “cheese” like we do nowadays to get natural smiles in pictures. They said “prunes” to look more serious and sophisticated, believing smiling in photos was for the lesser educated in society.
COVID-19 may inevitably come up, so what new is there to say? When we sneeze, the air comes rushing out of our nose at 100mph. That’s not something we’ve heard in any of the news reports!
With these fascinating factoids, you’re sure to have great conversation at your holiday gatherings! We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
